Pasture Raised Pigs
We’ve all heard the saying: you are what you eat. Commercial operations today keep animals inside in small spaces, feeding the lowest cost options they can find to maximize profits.
One of the things we love about KuneKune and Meishan pigs is the fact they live off of pastures. Green grass, locally sourced grains, large expanses to roam all add up to a much more flavorful result, and a much happier animal living on the land as nature intended. Read more to find out why this makes such a difference.
Happy as a Pig
With space to roam, plenty of their pig friends, and visitors to give them belly rubs and treats, our pigs live a happy, cared for life. We are thankful to these animals for the food they provide us, and we feel that the least we can do is create the best environment for them while they grow up and stay with us.
Over thirty acres of pasture to roam, left over apples from local orchards, pumpkins from our gardens and acorns and nuts from our trees, the variety in their food is one of the reasons they produce high quality meat. While we still supplement them with grain, it’s always non-medicated, and it provides valuable minerals they otherwise won’t get on our local soils. The important thing is this is a supplement to their way of life and diet, not a main staple.
While this way of raising them takes longer, we truly believe the extra time, money and energy put into making their way of life as natural as possible creates the highest quality pork you’ll ever taste. Once you try it, you won’t want to go back.
